Dear
friends,
It is a great pleasure for us to contact you once again. With this
letter, we’ll give you more of our news about the "meals of love" that we
organize.
We conduct these “meals of love” in cooperation with other parties,
once a week. Every Saturday everyone is able to enjoy a hot plate of dissent
food. There are approximately fifty to sixty people that come to the meals, each
week. There is absolutely no discrimination about who those people may be. We
only have a delicious meal, a little understanding and much warmth to give. Our
mission, the Greek Christian Mission, participates to those meals by having the
joy to offer some of the food to be cooked. And this is accomplished thanks to
your help. There are people who offer their help to cooking, others who work on
serving the meals and others who make sure the place’s hygiene. We all
cooperate with each other, because there is a lot of work to be done, many
preparations and it all requires a lot of time and a hard try to accomplish. But
there’s one thing that’s for sure. It is worth of all the work. As a matter
of fact, we feel so happy helping others who undertake acts of such kindness -
when we happen to meet any. There is no such thing as “competition” when you
try to soften people’s pain. There is only pure cooperation for the same
purpose.
We also move into satisfying the mental needs of people. We have all
asked ourselves: How will the young people get away from drugs ? How can we
protect our children ?
The way to find an answer
to these questions and thus, helping our children, is by giving them the correct
values, moral ideals and above all, ethics. So, we spent some money to buy 2500
copies of the New Testament and offered them to high schools of Thessaloniki and
Nigrita (of the city of Serres). The version of the New Testament we distributed
was written in modern Greek i.e. in the everyday spoken, understandable
language. Another 2500 copies were donated to various people we met. The reason
we offered the New Testament is because we believe that in the darkness that
surrounds our world, the Scriptures are the only source of light, peace, truth
and joy. Adamantios Korahs, a great teacher of the Greek nation, once said:
“It is only through the Gospel that Greece will be saved”. And this is why
we work so hard on giving the gospel to our fellow-men. The Gospel is very
useful, even to business-men who have so many things to do. It helps them in
guiding their people - employees and partners. It is in the Gospel where you can
find the virtues that Jesus Christ taught to his disciples. We also want to come
closer to the simple staff members of businesses, by giving them this great
gift. We already distributed about 130 copies to the local authorities of
Nigrita (of Serres). And we keep on working on it. We want to thank you for all
of your love and help that you gave us until now.
It is due to many offers on reinforcing our humanitarian and educational
mission, that we decided to open a bank account. Here is any information you may
need:
